The Final Frontier

The Final Frontier is a community project and a series of science-fiction and science-fantasy nation roleplays hosted on Discord with one, or two for the first several years, games hosted there each year. By convention, these start at the beginning of summer, usually late May through early July, and can last up to a year when a new one is set up.

Unlike most other roleplays of the same genre, most of which focus significantly more on competition between players, TFF has been historically far more focused on cooperative writing and the quality of this writing above notions of competition. While this has proven difficult at times, particularly in the early iterations where the community had not yet consolidated to its current form, and when most active players were still both used to more aggressive settings and younger, it has created one of the best settings to write science fiction and science fantasy stories for, in my opion. The community got started roughly one year before the first server was set up in a multitude of different similar servers, including Galaxy in Chaos and The Dark Frontier among others, all of which had recently shut down. Mostly by chance, the first Final Frontier was set up in July of 2020 by Scherm and enjoyed great success. So much so that, following the completion of its story, a reboot Season 2, was set up in the same server, attracting more people.
